Musings No. 6 | Friday Favorites

watching: In the last couple months, I’ve binged three different shows: The Bold Type, Younger, Brooklyn 99. I’m terrible at describing shows but I would say The Bold Type and Younger are more toned down versions of Sex in the City (I’ve only seen just a few episodes here and there of that so maybe it’s not the best description but that’s what I’m going with!) All three shows are on Hulu and Brooklyn 99 comes back next week!

rediscovered: Kristen Ess hair care I use the texture spray all the time! It’s perfect after curling your hair because it makes it more undone, which is what I prefer. The dry shampoo is the best one I’ve tried. I used the leave-in conditioner and the serum all the time a few months ago, took a break from it to try other things, and now I’m back to it. The serum is great after curls as well, if you feel like your hair is looking a little dry at the ends (me always!) and then spraying it with the texture spray and you’re good to go!

Printed

I am so excited to share this post with y’all! A few weeks ago, I talked about my love of photography and that I loved looking through old photos and slides that my grandpa took. The one thing I hate about the digital age is I don’t feel obligated to print photos. And if I don’t print them, I only look at them long enough to post on Instagram or to put on an external hard drive.

I think the last time I printed photos was a few years ago for a collage I made but it was disappointing because some photos didn’t print in the right direction or the color was off. With being able to edit photos and crop them in somewhat “abnormal” sizes, they don’t always print how you see them, they’re zoomed in to fit the print. (Am I making sense here?!)

Try On Haul No. 1

So I decided to do something a little different. This post will go side by side with my instagram story today. It’s a funny thing when you’re a small blogger and you can’t put direct links in your insta stories and can’t upload videos to your blog because of storage… you have to make due with what you have.

So I’m including screen shots and links in this post from my try on session from insta stories. Some of my favorite insta stories are when bloggers try on things they just bought, it’s like talking with a friend after shopping!

My instagram handle is @morgannprice (make sure you get the two n’s!) and I’ll get the story posted as close to posting this as possible. I know the photos below aren’t the best, lighting was an issue, but the videos on insta story will hopefully make this try on haul a better experience! 🙂

First Day of School

Anyone else get totally exhausted after the first day of class even though you don’t really do anything? Total information overload. I swear I never feel as exhausted during the school year as I do on the first day.

Even during finals. Which I’m sure sounds crazy to some people!

The most exciting part of this semester is I’m really getting into the bulk of the courses for my major, print/digital journalism. I’m most excited for the photography course. As y’all know, I love photography, but everything I know is pretty much self taught. I’ve never had any formal training.

Now lets talk about what I wore. It wasn’t this outfit. But that’s mostly because every time I plan to wear a dress, it’s windy and generally on campus it’s way windier than when I leave my house so I just don’t risk it. It was also cooler today, 80 degrees, and it tends to be pretty to cold in the buildings I’m in all day, so I actually ending up wearing jeans.

But what I really want to talk about are these shoes!

My Grandpa

Eight years ago today, my grandpa passed away. I never planned to write about this post but last night it hit me how much of an effect he had on my life even though he only got to be here for a small part of it.

When I was in fourth grade, he had a stroke and from then until my third day of ninth grade, he stayed in a nursing home because the stroke paralyzed his left side. A majority of my memories of my Grandpa are from those years. Going to church with him on Sundays, talking about my middle school choir concerts, playing wii bowling when we had a wheel chair accessible van so he could come home on holidays.

A lot of my happy memories are from before then too.

Playlist No. 1

I love listening to music and finding new music. Often times when I do, I listen to it over and over and over until I’m absolutely sure I’m sick of it. I decided every couple of months to share some of my favorite songs.

Most of the time I find songs I hear in TV shows and movies and occasionally the Spotify Discover Weekly playlist really gets it right and I find a lot of songs that way. You’ll probably notice, I tend to listen to a mix of different types of music and I definitely go back and forth between upbeat and slow/sad songs. Pretty much any song that makes me picture a scene in a movie, happy or sad, I’m going to love.

Some of these are more recent favorites that I can’t stop listening to and others are long time loves!

(Clicking on the song will take you to a spotify link to listen!)

I Don’t Know What to Talk About

I’ve said before, the hardest part of blogging is coming up with a title for the post. Really. I’m also terrible at headlines for any story I write, that’s just not where my creativity works.

Also equally as difficult for a blog post, figuring out what the hell to talk about.

If I’m given a topic, I could probably talk all day about it, at least if it’s a topic I actually know something about. However, usually when I sit down to write a blog post, I stare at it for a while before I just force myself to talk… write.

Usually I just end up talking about the outfit in the photos and sometimes I just start thinking “blah blah blah, they can see it! Why am I explaining it?!” Honestly, sometimes I just want to share an outfit but I have nothing  to go along with it. But I know when I read blogs, first it’s for the photos, that’s what draws me in, but I also want to read something with it. Even if it’s just a paragraph, a blurb.

Neutrals + Straw Hat

Between this Texas heat and starting my sixth week of Monday thru Thursday 8 a.m. classes, looking presentable daily has not been a priority. I’ve been living in college t-shirts and Nike shots. Occasionally I’ll throw on jean shorts and a nicer tank if I’m feeling like it. But for the most part I’ve been going with minimal effort outfits so I can roll out of bed at the last possible moment.

It would be so easy to pull together this simple outfit too. But I don’t know if any of y’all are like this, you have to fave your favorite outfits for days when you’re feeling great. Days when you have to time to both sleep in and have time to (and motivation) to do your makeup and hair.

I can’t just waste a good outfit, even a simple but cute one, on a day when I have just 10 minutes between waking up, making coffee, and getting out the door!

What to Watch on Netflix + Amazon Prime

As bad as it is, most of my free time is spent browsing through Netflix but since it’s summer it’s really not that bad right? Totally acceptable! And since it is the All-Star break for MLB, there’s nothing for me to watch until Friday. So I figured I would share some of my favorite shows, movies, and documentaries in case y’all were looking for something new to watch! These aren’t all of my favorites, we would be here forever, but I tried to pick ones that I’ve watched multiple times and deserve some more love.

p.s. I’ll more than likely call every one of these “my all time favorite” but that’s because I really do love all of these and I have trouble picking favorites. Like when you’re a kid and have all your stuffed animals on your bed because you don’t want them to be lonely.

DOCUMENTARIES

Documentaries are some of my favorite things to watch, especially about events that I know very little about or have only heard about in passing. These are my favorite because they’re very well put together and you get a lot of information very quickly. They aren’t boring and drawn out and they really make you think.

Hot pink laser cut out dress

IMG_3036

Finally sharing this dress! Y’all know I usually stick with neutrals and this hot pink is certainly not something normally in my closet but it totally jumped out at me while scrolling through SheIn. The bright pink is hard to miss.

I got it while it was on sale a few months ago, this dress is normally just $17 (as of writing this on Monday, it’s only $13!) and while I usually wouldn’t go for a dress this bold, I couldn’t pass it up. I like that while it has the bright color and the cutout detail at the bottom, it’s a super easy dress and fairly simple. No need to worry about accessories and any show would go with it whether it’s sandals, flats, or wedges/heels.
